Obituary

Lowell Warren Tye was surrounded by his loving family when, at the age of 97, he was reunited with his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Gerrard Tye and returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

He entered this world on June 15, 1925 born in the family home in Taylorsville, Utah as the first child of J Lowell Tye and Edna Christensen Tye.

As an early member of the Taylorsville community he spent his days working on the family farm milking cows and tending chickens. After graduating from Granite High School, he was drafted in the Army and served in the Quartermaster Corp in Europe during World War II.

Upon his return he attended University of Utah, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Vertebrate Zoology and became a die hard "Utah Man". While attending the "U" he was fortunate enough to win the favor of Betty Gerrard who became his eternal love.

They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 16, 1948. They made their home in Taylorsville where they raised seven wonderful children.

The family enjoyed camping, spending many hours singing as they traveled.

In his early days as a carpenter, he learned the tricks of the trade from his father. Later he earned his position as manager for Stauffer Chemical which allowed him to provide a good life for his family. While working for Stauffer he was transferred to Kellogg, Idaho as a plant Supervisor where he and his family made numerous life long friends and memories.

He served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Bishop of the Kellogg, Idaho Ward.

After four years in Kellogg he had the opportunity to return to Taylorsville and happily reunite with his family and friends where he stayed until retirement.

Other than his stint in the army and his time in Kellogg, Idaho, Warren spent his whole life in Taylorsville, passing away only 50 feet from the home where he was born. Warren's passions were attending horse pulls, meeting with his "Club Bunch", socializing with his Taylorsville and Chicken Club friends, gardening, camping, and raising chickens. In the old family barn, he raised champion Bantam Orpingtons, competing at the national level. He became known as "Mr. Orpington" and was honored with an award from the American Poultry Association.

Warren was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, eagerly and ably serving in various positions whenever called upon.

Warren's legacy will be his love of family, love of community, his service to others, always ready with a story or a joke, and his encyclopedic knowledge of all things Taylorsville. He always had good, common sense advice. His curiosity and gregariousness endeared him to everyone he met.

Warren is survived by his children; Christine "Tina" (Brent) Osborne, Barbara (Terry) Wasik, Rodney (Ann) Tye, Allison Trease, Cheryl (Nathan) Jones, Maryanne Tye; his 23 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and his baby sister Kathleen Donelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edna and Lowell, wife Betty, son Lowell Tye, 1 great-grandson Cooper, brother Ralph Tye, sister-in-law, Belva Tye, and brother-in-law Richard Donelson.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all his wonderful care-givers.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 16th at the Taylorsville Stake Center located at 4845 S. Woodhaven Dr. (1365 W.) Friends may call Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 S. Redwood Rd. and Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:45 am at the Stake Center.
