Obituary

On the morning of Friday Oct 5, 2018, Thalia Elaine Harting, a wonderful wife, grandmother, sister and a sweet and loving mother, to many more than her own seven children, passed on peacefully to enter eternal life at the age of 85. Elaine was born July 20, 1933, into simple means in Charlotte, NC. She was the eldest of three sisters. (Miriam & Jan). Elaine married her high school sweetheart Matt Harting, on December 18, 1951 in Ellicott City, MD and through it all they still remained together all this time even now as they are being reunited. Elaine had a great passion for crochet, knitting, sewing, and anything that involved yarn and fabric; the era of corduroy was truly a traumatic year for our family. She had the world's most extensive earring collection and a troubling addiction to Knick Knacks. She was as feisty as she was gentle, as forthright as she was sweet and sometimes could even be somewhat tactful, and had as much innocence as she had wisdom. Her gentleness and big heart was extended to those close to her and to those she barely even knew. In her lifetime, Elaine made friends for life , she loved her children and grandchildren deeply, she wonderfully worried too much over everything, she made sure every baby was kissed, she performed many home haircuts that went wrong, could cuss like a salty sailor when needed, was never one to pass up a sale, had everyone's birthday, anniversary and graduation date memorized, wrote the most heartfelt personal letters of love and inspiration, had a sweet tooth that is the story of legend and lore, and had way too many quilting parties that turned our simple home into a cackling hen house. This incredible woman will be missed dearly but her spirit and legacy will survive and be carried on by her children: Scott, Drew, Deland, Elizabeth and Pete, and her countless and special grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be met with open arms and reunited on the other side with her other two daughters, Dina and Deeann. Whatever is on the other side? Well they certainly have their hands full now!
