Obituary
Ruby Lee Stokes was born July 20, 1948 in Burke County, Georgia to Mattie Bernice Stokes and George Washington Stokes. Ruby had a sweet spirit, touched everyone she met and never complained.
Ruby moved to Salt Lake City, Utah with her family in 1971. She was baptized in Jesus’s name, filled with the holy ghost, and never looked back. She was a member of Mama's Temple Pentecostal Church where she sang in the choir, worked on church projects, and helped new souls, seeking the lord, get saved. She loved God, his people and was a faithful soldier for the lord.
Ruby worked at Olympia Sales Company making kitchen cabinets for 32 years until she was let go in 2008 due to budget cuts. She got her first driver’s license in 1993. She went back to school, graduated, and received her High School Diploma in 2009.
Ruby loved all her family, the good, the bad and the ugly. You could always find her at a family get together. She loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Everybody loved her sweet potato pie, turkey, dressing and potato salad. They were a real treat! She would give you her last if you were in need. She was the caregiver for most of our loved ones that passed on before her.
Ruby quietly departed this life and went home to be with the lord on July 8, 2021 after a bout with cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Ruby Ann Romeo (Mark J. Romeo), grandson Alvin Isaiah Knox (Sarai Knox), 2 sisters, Bertha Byrd (Dennis Byrd), Katie Laurentin, 4 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and 5 brothers on her dad's side of the family, Phinezee, George, James, Ray, and Zebedee. She is preceded in death by mother Mattie B. Stokes (1989), daughter Mattie Knox (1994), her brothers, John Edward Stokes (1965), Wesley Henry Stokes (2000), Elbert Wimberly (2017), Eddie Joe Stokes (2018) and aunt Eliza Ann Griffin (2009).
