Obituary
Roger LaMont Fitt 1936 ~ 2010 Our beloved Roger ended his valiant struggle with emphysema on November 11, 2010 at the age of 74. Roger was born on August 22, 1936 in Murray, Utah, to Cyril and Olivia Nielson Fitt. As the 9th of 10 children, he grew up in a boisterous home "way out in the country" in South Salt Lake. He attended Granite High School, where he excelled in sports and music. As a young man, he served in Korea with the United States Army. On February 6, 1955, Roger married Shirley Gael Peterson, later divorced. In 1969, he married Patricia Serbousek, his loving wife of 19 years, who preceded him in death in 1988. He married the love of his life, Sheri Young, on May 20, 1992. A man with a love for learning and boundless curiosity, Roger enjoyed a rich and varied career, working as a Salt Lake Police officer, in landscaping, and in concrete engineering. The original American picker, Roger loved prowling yard sales and thrift stores for treasures. He had a great eye for art, and spent many happy hours with his good friends, the "art nerds". His eye for beauty and his creativity led him to pursue many endeavors such as gardening, whittling, and building various small projects with his grandsons. He was renowned for his sense of humor, and loved nothing more than a good practical joke. He brought so much joy into the world and will be sincerely missed. Roger is survived by his loving wife Sheri, children Doug (Carrie), Rodney Alan (Margene), Stephanie (Bob), Brad (Paula), Jessi (Justin), and Jennifer, 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Patty, daughter Leslie, and son Michael. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, at The LDS Parkview ward, 619 West 5750 South in Murray, Utah. Friends may call at 10:00 a.m. Rest in peace, dear one. Our hearts go with you.
