Papataia Sione

Papataia was born in Fagamalo, Savai’i, Samoa, on October 15, 1959 to father Muese Tanumafili Taito and mother Elisapeta Mataiao. He passed away August 11, 2020 in West Valley City, Utah.

He is the 2nd oldest of 13 children and was raised in Manase, Savai’i, Samoa

He was a very talented and very hardworking man. Back in American Samoa, he worked at the fish cannery as the forklift driver and on the side he did carpentry construction. He migrated to America in 2000 and worked as a journeyman scaffold builder. At the same time, he owned his own company, Le Tama Svai’i Pallet Company since 2002, and worked on the side after his full-time job.

He has seven children: #1 daughter, Noela Robert, #2 son, Atonio Taito #3 daughter, Milosia Olomautu, #4 daughter, Rasela Taito, #5 son, Muese Taito, #6 daughter, Fusiloa Thor, #7 daughter Judy Taito. He has 17 grandchildren with one on the way! His family was very important to him. He loved providing for his family and cared for them deeply. His grandbabies were especially dear to him; he loved them deeply with all his heart. He loved to hold them close and be with them as much as possible.

Papataia loved fishing! He also loved to play Samoan cricket and volleyball. To him, Food is Life! He enjoyed eating and loved his food!

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The gospel was very important to him and faithfully fulfilled every calling possible except for a Bishop. He absolutely loved serving and he loved the gospel. His favorite quote was “Families are Forever”! He loved teaching the Plan of Salvation! He also attended the temple almost every week.

Papataia is survived by his spouse; his children; grandchildren; mother, siblings, Auntie Savali Pogisa, and many family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at Taylorsville City Cemetery, Taylorsville, Utah.
