Our hardworking and selfless husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend passed away suddenly on February 19, 2016 from complications of cancer. Jim was born March 4, 1944 to James Edward Sr. and Eleanor Jolin Taney in Sioux City, Iowa. He moved with his family to Utah in 1946, graduated from Granger High School and attended Brigham Young University.
He married his sweetheart, Connie Steadman Taney on June 5, 1965 in Salt Lake City Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on December 1, 1965, and they were blessed with five beautiful, healthy children.
He worked at Primary Children's Medical Center for 37 years as a orthotist, was an avid hunter, involved in scouting, and a member of Mountain Men of the Wasatch. Attending many Mountain Man Rendezvous, he learned and developed a passion for gunsmithing, and opened a store called The Gun Shop. He loved to cook, especially in a camp setting, was known to some as "Cookie", and owned a dutch oven catering business with his son.
He dedicated his life to community involvement and serving others. He was a lifetime member of The Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Boy Scout leader extraordinaire, and Teen Council Advisor for the 4-H program. He served as a crossing guard, and caretaker at The Taylorsville-Bennion Heritage Center, where he enjoyed tinkering, using his fix-it skills, and loving animals. The Taney family van was often filled with teens, much of his vacation time was spent chaperoning their adventures. His generosity and compassionate example influenced many people in their leadership and personal development.
He loved planning trips. He loved taking road trips to historical sites with his family, going to Disneyland, and cruising.
