Obituary
Ferris Hanson Lawson 1924~2003 Ferris Hanson Lawson passed away peacefully on the afternoon of June 19, 2003.Born August 16, 1924 on the family farm in Cedarview (Roosevelt), Utah to Jesse Q. Lawson and Elizabeth Mary Moore Lawson. He was the 9th of 11 children. Doing chores and herding sheep and cattle made him realize that farming was not the future he wanted to pursue. In 1941, with the outbreak of World War II, he quit high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a radioman on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific. Returning to Utah, following the war, he began his government career at Tooele Ordinance Depot, where he eventually retired after 32 years of federal service. It was also in Tooele, 56 years ago, that he met and married Mary Frances Baudack. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything that involved family. His favorite by far was the annual pheasant hunt on the family farm with family, best friends and one of his hunting dogs. He also was a long time fisherman of Strawberry Reservoir. The past several years he reverted back to his farming days, using his yard to harvest fruit and vegetables which he shared with the neighborhood. His rose garden was his passion and his "hand clippers" the tool of choice. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances (Frankie); son, Lonnie; daughter, Cheryll; brother, Douglas; sisters, Laura Dye and Wanda Nelson. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Everett, Quivington, Woodrow and Max; sisters, Iona Worthen, Katherine Yack and Guinevere Sweat. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. marks hospital, especially Dr. Jeffrey Kurrus and Dr. David S. Peterson. Graveside service will be Monday, June 23, 2003 at the Taylorsville Cemetery. Friends and family may call Sunday, June 22, 2003, 6-8 p.m. and Monday, 1-2 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Rd. Interment: Taylorsville Cemetery
