He graduated from West High School where he excelled in the ROTC program. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1949-1951. After completing his military service he continued his education at the University of Utah, graduating in 1955 in Engineering. He loved the red and white and remained an avid supporter of U of U athletics throughout his life. Don and his sweetheart Joyce Nichols were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 28, 1953. He dedicated his life to serving his family and church. He often worked two jobs without complaint to provide for his wife and eight children, whom he loved with all his heart. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served two missions, as a young elder in Hawaii, and then later, he and his wife served together in the Salt Lake City Mission where they were deeply loved by the missionaries. He served in many leadership capacities in the church. Don was blessed with many special talents which he delighted in sharing with others, including a beautiful singing voice and the ability to play numerous musical instruments. He will be forever remembered for his kind and compassionate heart. He tenderly cared for his parents in their declining years and was, throughout his life, always willing to give of himself and share all that he possessed with his family and others. His love for the Savior was truly manifest in the way he lived his life. He was always on the go, but experienced his greatest happiness in spending time with his wife and family. He leaves behind his wife and children: Vicki (Ronald Hancock), Susan (Don Thompson), Diane (Keith Yor-gason), David, Michael (Tammy), Brent (Wendy), Becky (John Hauber), Jeffery (Kay), 47 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
