Obituary

Abel passed away December 17, 2001 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Taylorsville, Utah to Mary Jane Wall and Abel Gudmund Gudmundsen. After graduating from West High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served com-bat duty in the South Pacific. He retired in 1964 as a Senior Master Sgt. He graduated from the University of Utah with BS, MS, and EDS Degrees.

After teaching in the Granite School District for 19 years, he retired. During his retirement he continued to teach as an Adjunct Professor at the U of U, USU and UCLA. The classes were based on a book, "You Can Control Your Class," which he co-authored with Dr. Ellen Williams and Dr. Rex Lybbert. Abel married Dianne Ishmael in December 1951 and often said it was the best move he ever made.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; two daughters, Marcia Jarvis, West Valley City; and Nancy
Gudmundsen-Lunak (Mitch) Holladay; three grandchildren, Mathew, Natalie, Anthony Jarvis; sisters, Helen Boyd and Norma (Doug) Morris.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. at the Granger Stake Center, 2850 West 3835 South. Friends may call Thurs., 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road and Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery.
