Obituary

Richard Oscarson, 66, of West Jordan, Utah, gained his angel wings on September 4, 2023, after lingering health issues. Richard was born May 9, 1959, to Ted and Iris (Reynolds) Oscarson in Salt Lake City, Utah. When he was just 6 weeks old his heart stopped beating during surgery. Dr. Tanner and his team said a prayer and then operated on his heart. He was the youngest baby on record, at that time, to have open heart surgery.
He attended Utah School for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden, Utah, several schools in the Salt Lake area, including Murray High School, and Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bill and Ramon (Beverly) Oscarson. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Peterson, and brothers Robby (Leslie) and Lynn (Sheri) Oscarson and many nieces and nephews who will miss 'Cool Deaf Rich'. He has a huge group of friends in the deaf and hard of hearing community. Special thanks to Wayne and Alene Bailey, and their son, Michael, for welcoming him into their home for the last several years.
His mind was like a calculator. He was exceptional with numbers and dates, and he could tell you stats of any team or player. He was the best scorekeeper for all the games the deaf teams played! He enjoyed family gatherings, and deeply loved his family. His sense of humor and great laugh will truly be missed.
A viewing and memorial service will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023, with the viewing from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the memorial service, where family and friends can share memories of him, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It will be held at the LDS Church at 6250 S 2200 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129.
A celebration of life will be held on another day and time, soon to be announced. Interment will be later this month at the Taylorsville Cemetery. Address and date will be posted soon.
