Obituary

Vernis Nelson Taylor, 79, passed away peacefully March 24, 2025 at her home in West Valley City beside her beloved husband. She was born July 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City and was adopted by Vern Nelson and Margorie Ainsworth. She married Rex Taylor March 9, 1963 and was sealed in the Manti Temple.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, together they had three beautiful children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In High School, Vernis served as historian of the FHA club (Future Homemakers of America). She was a member of the Katettes (a dance team that promoted school spirit). She was the Junior Class representative for the school’s paper (The Sevierian). Vernis was also the secretary of the Junior Class at Richfield High School.

Vernis was a great seamstress; she loved sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed playing the piano. She volunteered at her children's school in the PTA.

Vernis loved her Savior Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was the central foundation of her life.

Survived by her husband, Rex Taylor, West Valley City; Her children, Julie Broderick, Bountiful; Scott (Kristine) Taylor, Taylorsville; ten Grandchildren; eight Great-grandchildren; Sibling, Robert (Bob) Nelson, Draper.

Preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Melanie Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, March 28, 2025 at the Jordan N. 3rd Ward Chapel, 4145 S. 3920 W. West Valley City, Utah. Friends and family may visit from 9:30-10:45am prior to the services at the church.
